Project: May 17th

  1. I looked into student loans a little more so i could better understand them and figure out how to apply for them. I was also curious about paying back the student loans and i happened to find a good website that talked a lot about that.
  2. I learned about the average student debt after graduating from a university, i also liked the examples that they used on the nerd wallet website to show just how much money that really was. I also learned about grace periods and the interest rates associated with student loans. It also amazed me to learn that student loan debt is higher than credit card debit...which confused me, because one would want to think that the government would want cheap schools to have a better educated working force.
  3. I spent an hour researching and reading the different websites and i put three of my favorite ones below as evidence.

Project: Plan

  1. My plan was fairly easy to come up with, i thought of something that i would really like to do/know. The one thing that i thought of the most was what i really want to do with my life. I know i will be asking myself that question for the rest of my life, but i wanted to get a nice head start. I also thought i would be a good idea to put on the plan that a goal of mine was to do very well in my chem and math classes.
  2. I thought it would be a good idea to talk to one of the tutors at my school to get some ideas at how to be successful in chem and math. Which really wasn't that helpful because the tutor just said to come in when i had trouble and he would help, but i really haven't had trouble i just wanted some pointers. I also researched jobs and talked to my adviser to better understand jobs and what i needed to do for a transfer degree. Which was really helpful.
  3. Everything added up this probably took me about 2 hours to create the plan and get the info down.
  4. Turned in the plan

Project: Scholarship Application

  1. For this part of the class i had to fill out an application for a scholarship, i had never filled one out before so it was a good look at what to expect for the future. I have however found some scholarships to go for which is good.
  2. I had to think about the colleges i want to go to and the degree that i was looking to get. It was interesting to think about the different colleges, i had only ever thought about going to one university so it was kind of interesting to think about different ones. I also liked the idea of practicing the scholarship application, so we had a better idea of what to expect from the real thing.
  3. This took me about 45 min to get the application done, i got caught up looking at different colleges.
  4. Turned in the application

Project: Digital story

  1. For this part of the class i had to create a multimedia video about myself, my hobbies/interests and what i want to do with my life.
  2. I actually really liked this, i made a video and uploaded it to youtube. I have never had to make a video before and i had never used Microsoft video before. So i was really impressed that i was actually able to create a video. I learned a lot about what i want to do, i also had time to reflect on the things that i like to do and the places i would like to visit when i am older. The best thing i got from this project was the feeling of accomplishment that i got after making the video! I was so proud, i fell like i better understand technology now because of it.
  3. I spent a lot of time trying to understand the Microsoft movie maker, writing down a script for what i would say and figuring out how to do voice recordings on my computer. so about 3-4 hours in total.
  4. Uploaded video

Project: May 16th

  1. Today i looked through my BECU account, i looked at my recent transaction to see how much i spend in a month (the average of three months). I did this to try and figure out just how much i spend and if there is anyway i could cut back and save more money, I was also interested in how much i make in and average week (which turned out to be fairly consistent).
  2. I found out that in the month of April i had spent $177.43 , in March i had spent a bit more $205.69, in February i had spent $193.09. To me these numbers seem very big, i could definitely spend less money. I march i had bought a new multivitamin so that is why there is a big difference in the amount spent in those few months. I also found out how much i make in an average month (which i wont put on here), but i really need to budget a lot a little bit more, because i could save myself a lot of money. I also found that i get gas exactly two times a month and i spend an average of $33.58 whenever i get gas. I was surprised to see this because that really isn't that bad, riding the bus to school really has saved me a lot of money. I also saw that i went to buy a drink at the store quite often (the $3.25 comes up quite often), if i cut that out i could save a lot of money.
  3. I spent 50 minutes doing this, it really didn't take me that long to do all this. I was also really surprised at how far back BECU can go back to look at transactions on your phone.

CE Project: May 15th

  1. Researched some ways to live on a budget and still save money. I also looked up how to get a good credit rating and attempted to try and better understand credit cards and the benefits of having a good credit rating.
  2. I learned that there are a ton of benefits of having a good credit rating, including for buying a house and negotiating with a bank for a personal loan. I also got some good tips on how to start getting a good credit rating. The tip was to get a credit car (which i do not have), go to a clothing store and buy some fairly high priced clothes and then pay it all back ASAP, i also need to buy some new clothes so this sounded fun. I also found money saving tips for travelers, which i thought was awesome because i would really like to travel later on in life.
  3. This took me an hour, i looked through around 10+ different sites to try and find some good tips and a good credible source.

Project: May 6th, 7th and 11th

  1. Recently I was emailed about joining Phi Theta Kappa, which is the international honors society for community colleges. I was very surprised because i had never heard of them before, but apparently they have a ton of scholarships available to members of the honors society. It is an invite only group and it costs a little bit to get in.
  2. I was very surprised to learn that they have scholarships that transfer to universities, so i will most likely be joining in the next week or so. Also, on your degree there is a little gold key on the paper that signifies that you are part of the group which also looks good to colleges and other places since it is an international group.
  3. I spent quite a bit of time researching them, around an hour and a half while i was on the bus to and from school. This pertains to my project because i wanted to search for good scholarships and they seem to have found me.
  4. Evidence: Email me and i can forward the email to you to show as evidence (it has some info on it that i would rather not share).
